So check this out, the Weather Channel’s automated robo forecaster is full of fail this morning. This is what THEY are saying the forecast for today, for Madison, is:

A check of the National Weather Service, show’s a different picture:

…and sampling the local media, they’re all in the ballpark with the Weather Service. 27 is going with 47 today, 15 is going with 48 and 3 is going with 46.

Even my iGoogle widget agrees with the Weather Service:

So what’s my conclusion? The same as I’ve said a hundred times before… Trust your local meteorologist, not the Weather Channel!

I talked to a friend in the area, he says it’s nuts. He’s estimating 7+ inches at his house, which is not too far from where that retention pond is located at. And judging from the radar, he’s probably right.

That’s the GRLevel 3 display of the KLOT Doppler Radar estimate of the rainfall as of 1:50am to the left. I haven’t talked to anyone in Palatine yet, though, so I’m not sure of the situation just down the road.

Chicago Local Storm Reports as of 2am — Palatine isn’t mentioned in them, just Arlington Heights and a bunch of other surrounding areas.
